've got to tell you first right behind me are sandy hook firefighters who are getting hug, handshakes, and a great deal of gratitude from the folks here at the memorial. this memorial here at the bottom of the sandy hook christmas tree continues to serve as a place where browners. it has -- mourners are gathering. a funeral home across town was one of the first two memorial services for children killed three days ago. >>reporter: hundreds of people, including a young wrestling team came together at the funeral home in newtown to say goodbye to jack pinto. the media was not allowed inseed but outside the grief was clear. >> it was sad. it was very sad. it was short. >>reporter: the pastor attended the service and said jack was buried in the jersey of his favorite new york giants football player. flowers are in heavy demand this week for the funerals and many memorials that have popped up in town. >> you love to be able to help people at a time like this. i always feel that the flowers do comfort people but this is just so overwhelming. >>reporter: the owner told me the connecticut flor
at the memorial at the base of the sandy hook christmas tree. this memorial has grown exponentially in the last few days. at the memorial, we met some sandy hook firefighters. >> we had a meeting, to talk through what we've seen. this helped. we came away feeling well. >> reporter: he said they are deeply moved by the show of support. >> i think at the end, we'll be stronger and grow as a community. >> reporter: two of the victims, the firefighters tried to help were laid to rest today. hundreds of people came together at the funeral home in newtown to say goodbye to 6- year-old football player, wrestler, and skier, jack pinto. >> it was real sad. >> reporter: flowers are in heavy demand this week for funerals and the many memorials that have popped up around town. this is alice's floorist in nearby bethel. >> you want to be able to help people at a time like this. i feel the flowers do comfort people. but this is so overwhelming. it's one of the things you read about, and it's not going to happen here. >> reporter: in the city of monroe, a middle school is going to serve as the temporary home
at sandy hook elementary school. authorities identified the shooter at 20-year-old adam lanza. he reportedly had a history of mental illness. we have learned police found more guns on campus. we have news reporters covering all angles of this story. including who the shooter was. but we have jennifer davis. >> reporter: there was also a filled to capacity crowd here for a vigil earlier this evening. clearly this town is very much still struggling with what happened here earlier today. as is much of the country even the president was wiping away tears. >> it's identifying the shooter as 20-year-old adam lanza. they say he is the one who killed more than two dozen people including himself in this massacre. 20 of his victims were little children. >> there were 18 children who were pronounced dead at the school. there were two that were transported to area hospitals and pronounced dead at area hospitals. >> reporter: among the dead the gunman's mother who worked as a teacher at this school. her body was found at her home. lanza committed suicide after he opened fire at the school. the
churchgoers who had gone to solice. >> you saw these young children who go to sandy hook school and they were here for service and they were just crying. >>> we have team coverage tonight, we have ktvu's john sasaki in newtown. >> reporter: locals and visitors alike are paying their respects. >> we're thankful that we have our children and we're just, we wanted to come up and light a candle, say something nice. >> reporter: two days after this tragedy happened it seems like the emotions are flowing more freely. perhaps the shock is starting to ware off. yet people are still making the pilgramage. >> i have kids too, and it's sad. >> reporter: among the visitors we met was the county commissioner from pennsylvania. >> you can learn a lot by this tragedy. we're going the make the schools better. we're going to make the schools more safe. >> reporter: it is an overwhelming scene, especially for those with connection to the scene. this woman's son jack attends the school and they brought a jack in the box for dylan. >> i am very sad about everything, i don't understand why anyone would do this t
school other than sandy hook returned to school today. but many of them said they didn't get much work done but they did do a lot of talking about the terrible events that happened on friday. >>> for the first time since that massacre in newtown the national rifle association today issued a statement on the massacre. it read in part, the national rifle association of america is made up of 4 million moms and dads, sons and daughters and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in newtown. the nra says it is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure there's not a repeat of what happened in newtown and on friday the group plans to hold a press conference to offer more details. >>> the firm capital says it intends to sell its stock in cerberus. that's the company that makes the rifle used in friday's attack. it's not clear how long the suspension will last. dick's has removed all guns from the shelves of stores closest to newtown connecticut out of respect for the shooting victims and their families. >>> the bank is loca
